AICAR Research Compound
Research Use Only
This product is intended for laboratory research purposes only. It is not intended for human or veterinary use, food, cosmetic, household, or agricultural applications. Not for human consumption.
Overview
AICAR (5-Aminoimidazole-4-carboxamide ribonucleotide, also known as Acadesine) is a cell-permeable nucleoside analog that activates AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK). Often called an "exercise mimetic," AICAR triggers many of the same metabolic adaptations as endurance exercise.
Mechanism of Action
AICAR activates AMPK through:
- Conversion to ZMP (AICAR monophosphate)
- Direct AMPK activation (mimics AMP)
- Enhanced glucose uptake
- Increased fatty acid oxidation
- Mitochondrial biogenesis stimulation
Exercise Mimetic Effects
| Effect | Exercise | AICAR |
|---|---|---|
| AMPK Activation | + | + |
| Glucose Uptake | + | + |
| Fat Oxidation | + | + |
| Mitochondrial Biogenesis | + | + |
| PGC-1alpha Activation | + | + |
